The Children at Pebbles say a big “Thank You”

We recently sent out (courtesy of DHL South Africa) another consignment of hats, gloves and scarves that you lovely people had knitted for the children at Pebbles.  Despite the appeal having finished a long time ago many of you just kept on knitting and sending things in which was lovely of you.

Sophia sent me this letter to say Thank You -

Dear Chrissie,

A huge thank you to you Chrissie for organising this – I absolutely LOVE these photos, it was a really cold day when Estee went to hand out the hat and scarves and gloves, the kids were so excited….

Thank you for all the love and goodies you send us all.

Love and best wishes,

Sophia and the Pebbles team

Here are some lovely images of the children all wrapped up and cosy.

Queenie wrecks the hut!

How much damage can a hen do?  The answer is lots if locked in somewhere that she doesn’t want to be!

Naughty Queenie

We went to visit friends for lunch yesterday and as they’ve just moved I went into the hut to check directions.  Never thinking to check that one of our “ladies” had followed me in.  When we came back in the evening and went to put them away we were one short. As a last resort when we couldn’t find her we looked in the Shepherds Hut which is my office/retreat/workspace.  Devastation – there was stuff everywhere; material, needles, pins, threads, cards – a real mess – and Queenie sat sedately under the desk asleep! The computer didn’t know what had hit it as she had obviously been on the keyboard.  However, I’ve cleaned up this morning and nothing seems the worse for wear.

Hens are real characters and love company – Queenie obviously followed me in yesterday without me realising! Hey ho – just another day at Home Farm Cottage.

The Last Rose of Summer

This beautiful rose has just bloomed in our garden – surely the last of the summer.

I adore roses and there is something about pink roses that makes my heart sing and brings a smile to my face.

I hope that this brings a smile to your face too.

The last rose of summer

Is there any wonder then that when my sister and I decorated my grandaughters Christening cake last weekend pink roses were a big feature?

Enjoy!

One Very Inspirational Lady

I was recently invited to meet Guru Kaur and record a podcast for her Regally Graceful website http://www.regallygraceful.com/ . I had the most wonderful day and would recommend both her website and her blog http://www.gurukaur.com/blog

Guru Kaur, her husband Nick and their business and spiritual partner Hari welcomed me so warmly into their home and shared their food, experiences and inspiration and I came away a much richer person.

The Internet is a wonderful tool and is the medium through which I came to know these lovely people. Facebook, blogs and websites allow us to connect with people around the world. Sadly our broadband connection here is so poor that I am very limited in what I can do and how quickly and often get very frustrated by it but let us all use the technology that is on offer to do some good and connect and learn and interact.

I could not operate Injabulo without e-mail and the Internet and the ability to connect reasonably quickly with the producers and receive their photos and news. Many women are daunted by technology but it can open up a whole new world and introduce you to so many new experiences. I could never be glued to a computer all day though. Fresh air, woodland walks, family, pets, friends, music and the wonderful vista that is our green and pleasant land beckon every day. Add to that the ability to create lovely food and make small comforts for the home and I am complete.  I give thanks every day for everything that I have – I am so very lucky.

I’ve cribbed this quote from Guru Kaur’s blog – very fitting and very true!

Incomparable gorgeousness

Incomparable have sent us some lovely ideas for using the buttons as an embellishment – here are a few. I call this first one “Little Bo Peep” You can find embroidery like this on old tablecloths or tray cloths and the cute little buttons bring it right up to date without spoiling its charm.

Garden loveliness

This next one I call “This Little Bird” as he just sits so comfortably on this little embroidery and makes it look soooo cute.

Bird embroidery

This little picture would brighten any day and is a lovely reminder of a warm summer’s day and all the lovely little things we see in the garden on those hazy summer days.  The cutest little ladybirds fly amongst the flowers and the butterfly and birds just snooze in the sun!

Garden Picture

I hope that you enjoy these lovely ideas and have maybe been inspired to dig out an old tablecloth or pillowcase and embellish it.  Don’t forget that we’ve got some lovely new teeny tiny buttons on the website http://www.injabulo.com

We’re exhibiting at a Ladies Pamper Evening at Grantham DIY WI this evening which we are looking forward to as those WI ladies are usually a fun crowd.

Have a lovely weekend

Clarice Cliff Inspiration

Haven’t been blogging for a while due to illness but better now and starting to think about winter projects, although this gorgeous Indian Summer weather is just fantastic.

I found this gorgeous Clarice Cliff Royal Staffordshire in our local Oxfam shop – lots of bits and pieces so I’ve put one of the plates on the wall in the sitting room with my many others but decided it was time for new cushions and a few little bits and bobs!

Blue Mood Board

So I gathered together everything that I am going to need and pulled out some material from the stash, along with textures and tones of what is already in the room.

I shall, of course, be embellishing cushions and hearts with Incomparable buttons but I think that I shall also add a few beads and stitchmarkers in there as trim as well, along with some lace edging.

I’m going to the Antique and Home Fair at Lincolnshire Showground tomorrow and looking forward to searching through a treasure trove of goodies.

In honour of my “Blue mood” I think we’ll have some blue buttons as giveaways this week.

Watch out for the next post!

The 4 Seasons

I wanted to share with you this project that I completed some time ago (pre-Blog days)

The Four Seasons

I bought some cheap pine mirrors from Ikea and had them sitting around for ages.

One day I was at a show that was extremely quiet and needed something to do.  The stall opposite was selling plastic canvas and hand dyed threads so I bought  a selection and started stitching.

the Four Seasons - Spring

The colours here reminded me of Spring so I found a compatible Incomparable button ( the filigree here reminds me of new shoots), painted the mirror in green and stuck the stitched square to the centre of the mirror.

The Four Seasons- Summer

Summer – I think this is my favourite. The colours of the thread just sang of summer, the franginpani ceramic button reminded me of sunny South African days and the blue paint that I used for the mirror just reflected those big African blue blue skies.

The Four Seasons - Autumn

Autumn is such a lovely time of year, so many beautiful colours around and I thought these thread colours reflected those wonderful Autumn hues. I have finished this with an Incomparable golden ceramic pendant.

The Four Seasons-Winter

The dark purples and greens in this thread reflect for me the cold winter light and I painted the mirror in a dark lilacy purple to tone. I also used a couple of leaves from a silk flower brooch on this one and then mounted a lovely pansy button to remind me of the winter pansies.

I used a simple couch stitch for the squares and had great fun stitching and passing time at the show and then putting everything together.  It all evolved ( as most things do) – the stitched canvases sat in the drawer for a while. I buy lots of little sample paint pots whenever I go into a diy store ( not very often) – so it was a case of using what I had.

I’m really pleased with the end result – something very different, very individual —– and cheap!
